Thank you Florida Homeowners

The Aluminum Association of Florida (AAF) is a professional trade association for aluminum contractors, fabricators, and related businesses. Our contractor members offer many different services including pool enclosures, vinyl, and acrylic enclosures, awnings, shutters, sunrooms, siding, and so much more. We have chapters throughout the state of Florida and we continue to grow. Whether a homeowner or a professional in the industry, we are here to assist you.

As Floridians found themselves spending more time at home over the past 18 months, interest in improving their homes and backyards grew. A steep increase in pool permits throughout the state meant an equal increase in screen enclosures needing to be built.

At the same time, slow manufacturing caused delays in materials. From personnel issues at manufacturing facilities to expanded delivery times of overseas shipments, contractors throughout the state have found themselves waiting longer for items necessary to complete their projects.

In addition, the aluminum industry is facing the same employment challenges as industries throughout the state. There is a limited labor pool of qualified individuals to

The results of unforeseen demand, manufacturing delays, and limited labor have resulted in a much longer process for those wishing to improve their home with a vinyl room, screen enclosure, sunroom. It is common for the process, which usually would take 3 to 5 months now takes on average 9 to 12 months.

The AAF encourages all Florida homeowners to do research before selecting their aluminum contractor. The most important step is ensuring the contractor you hire is licensed. A contractor’s state license can easily be verified by visiting www.MyFloridaLicense.com. In Florida, an unlicensed contractor can be charged with a first-degree misdemeanor, with penalties up to one year in jail or 12 months of probation and a $1,000 fine.  In addition, the homeowner who hires that contractor may face fines up to $5,000 and can be held responsible for any damages and worker injuries occurring during the project inasmuch as unlicensed contractors often lack general liability and worker’s compensation insurance.

Only licensed and insured contractors are eligible for AAF membership.  We encourage you to visit www.aaof.org to find a contractor in your area of the state and then visit their website to see past projects and customer reviews.

The AAF asks that homeowners stay mindful of the external factors impacting the timeline of their home improvement projects.  As we navigate these unusual times, we are very thankful for a strong marketplace and remain optimistic that our members will meet your expectations.
